"Enhancing the Carbon Benefits of Your Sugarbush" is a publication form the University of Vermont Extension. Though geared to NE maple production the concepts apply to PNW forests. You may also be eligible for carbon sequestration credit in some form. Your local Soil and Water Conservation District, Natural Resources Conservation Service office, or watershed council may have more information.
